The article concluded:"Weinberg's non-ambitious goals make him a particularly odd and dangerous competitor online. He can do almost everything that Google or Bing can't because it could damage their business models, and if users figure out that they like the DuckDuckGo way better, Weinberg could damage the big boys without even really trying. Will be there on the Android phone as well, and vice versa. Chrome also works on Windows, a Mac and a Chromebook, bridging the divide between platforms. Mozilla Firefox & Firefox Focus For iPhone Mozilla's browser has been around for longer than almost any other browser, preceding Safari and Chrome. As a veteran of the early internet, Firefox has a loyal following of web developers that came to rely upon its advanced JavaScript debugging controls on the desktop. Unfortunately, the mobile browser is required to use Apple's WebKit rendering, meaning some of what makes Firefox unique is lost on the iPhone. The same is true of Google Chrome and every other iPhone browser. Apple considers it a security risk to allow another backend solution. That said, Firefox is an excellent browser with a big following. Mozilla also makes another web browser for the iPhone called Firefox Focus, and it's designed to keep things simple. A somewhat debatable 'feature' is a total lack of tabs. Users can open only one web page at a time. After Firefox Focus is installed, a Safari extension with content blocking controls becomes available, providing an extra incentive to get this app. A trash can icon at the bottom of the screen can quickly dump browsing history and close the open page. Microsoft Edge For iPhone Microsoft Edge is the default browser for Windows PCs, making this a good choice for iPhone owners that work or play on Windows computers. Edge is quite different from the old Internet Explorer browser that crumbled under the combined force of Chrome, Firefox and Safari, which adopted modern web standards much sooner. By comparison, Edge feels quick and light, allowing users to earn Microsoft Rewards while browsing. Edge also provides unique tools to help with comparison shopping, such as collections and coupons. DuckDuckGo For iPhone As silly as the name sounds, DuckDuckGo is a real web browser made by the same company behind the increasingly popular search engine by the same name. Naturally, every search made in this iPhone browser gives the results from the DuckDuckGo search engine, so fans of this alternative to Google and Bing will want to check out this web browser. DuckDuckGo also includes a special Fire button at the bottom, which allows quickly 'burning' all tabs and browsing data, so no evidence remains on the iPhone. In another browser #11 I've managed to dodge the main players for browsers for a while now, the struggle I'm having is finding a fucking search engine that works and isn't throwing AI shit at me. I'm really starting to wonder if it's even an option or I need to give up on search all together #12 I heard good things about DuckDuckGo. What are the opinions here? DuckDuckGo is fine, I use ecosia because they supposedly plant trees with the money they're making off of search revenue (I believe they're essentially just leveraging Bing search). We do our best, but ultimately we won't be able to solve problems simply by picking one corporation over another. #13 I never left my beloved Firefox #14 gonna assume this is do to ublock origin being removed from Chrome yesterday. You can still use Lite though. #15 Been rocking FireFox for past couple of years, took a bit of getting used to but i love it now and enjoy supporting a non web-kit browser. #16 I remember switching from Firefox to Chrome like 20 years ago because Firefox had awful browing and Flash performance, how time have changed. #17 DuckDuckGo is fine, I use ecosia because they supposedly plant trees with the money they're making off of search revenue (I believe they're essentially just leveraging Bing search). We do our best, but ultimately we won't be able to solve problems simply by picking one corporation over another. You're not wrong. I guess Google's gotten so big that I finally decided to make a switch, but I know I'm just a small flick of a brush on an entire painting. #18 I've been using firefox for about a year and haven't had any complaints. I'm always curious about Opera or Opera GX and I'm not sure if it's a meme browser or the secret best browser. #19 Stopped using chrome a long time ago, went back and forth between Brave and Edge when Edge was great for a short period before they ruined it again. Now back to Firefox once again and it's been great so far. #20 I've been doing pretty well in my efforts. It's never going to be perfect, and I'm sure I'll still use the others, but it has been enjoyable.Basically I went from...Samsung Internet Chrome Firefox ...to...FirefoxSamsung InternetChrome If Firefox could obtain some of the Samsung video player features it would be awesome. #22 I heard good things about DuckDuckGo. What are the opinions here? I've been using Duck Duck Go for my main search for a couple of years now. It's been good! #23 I switched to Firefox in like 2008 or something and have never strayed. I'm sure Firefox also sucks actually but it's always had what I needed. #24 I wrote about maps here, I need to cut it down to be more readable at a glance for the OT but all the info is there if you want an overview of map stuffs: #25 Several. Lacks "standard" browser features such as tab managementNo dedicated Javascript blocking ()No whitelisting featureNo extension compatibility (not applicable to iOS) Firefox Focus is an official fork of the original Firefox browser that is developed by Mozilla.(If you're interested, I compared Firefox and Focus in a separate post.)Officially, Focus debuted in late 2015 as a dedicated tracker blocker for iOS devices. It didn't become its own standalone browser until 2016.Additionally, it's considered a no-frills minimalist mobile browser - there is no desktop version of Firefox Focus like there is with regular Firefox.Mozilla says that Firefox Focus will let you "take private browsing to the next level" and describes Firefox Focus as a "dedicated privacy browser." Mozilla also says you can use Focus as either a privacy browser or a content blocker for Safari on compatible iOS devices. We'll evaluate these statements later on in this review. Download Firefox Focus (iOS) Download Firefox Focus (Android)AvailabilityFirefox Focus is only available for mobile platforms. You can find it on iOS and Android.Be aware that access to Firefox Focus may be restricted in some parts of the world.RequirementsiOS: You need iOS 11.0 or later to use this browser.Android: You need Android version 5.0 (Lollipop) or later to use this browser.App sizeThe size of Firefox Focus varies on different Android devices.According to its Apple App Store page, the size of the app is about 14.5MB.(Even with the Android variance, I can imagine the size isn't too much different between Android and iOS devices.)Launch and set upThere's super minimal set up necessary before using Firefox Focus. On the first opening of the browser, you're presented with 3 screens. These screens give you some insight into what Firefox Focus does and some tips on how to start using it.We'll dive into the privacy and security features of Firefox Focus. We'll also cover any other cool, notable, or unique features found.Always on private browsingFirefox Focus is always in "private browsing" mode. When you quit the browser, it wipes all data such as cookies and browsing history.Ultimately, that means that Firefox Focus doesn't save any type of data between browsing sessions. You get a fresh and clean start every time you load up the browser.Tracker blockingFirefox Focus has good tracker blocking. From the jump it's set to block ad, analytics, and social trackers. You have the option of blocking "other content trackers," though the app doesn't specify what those are. Its ad tracker blocking is robust enough that it can block a lot of ads, despite not having a true ad blocker.size=24 Search options[/size]You've got a couple of default options for search engines while using Firefox Focus. Of these listed defaults, I highly suggest using DuckDuckGo. DuckDuckGo is a US based private search engine. If you want to add a different search engine - which Firefox Focus allows you to do - then I suggest adding a private search engine. We did the leg work and found some of the best private search engines here.Blank view in app switchThis is a neat little feature FirefoxComments
