January 15, 2011, 8:30am 1 I’m running Avast Free 5.1.889 on Windows 7 Ultimate and suddenly a few days ago after booting up the web shield just turned itself off. The Avast icon in the tray now has a exclamation point that wont go away.I try to turn them back on in the Avast interface but nothing happens. I disabled Windows Defender and uninstalled Malwarebytes with no avail (no other virus protection is installed). Next, I tried to repair but that didn’t work. I tried uninstalling and reinstalling with no luck. I then tried uninstalling and then using the Avast removal tool. After another installation I get the same result (I even tried this in safemode).Maybe a firewall issue? I did try turning off the firewall but nothing seemed to change. Something I’m missing? For example, If you go to myaccount.bank.com and someone on Wifi is infected with DNS Changer variant, he wont see your web request and change your final web address."Best,Jerry A VPN is a Virtual Private Network. If you use a VPN then all your network traffic is sent through an encrypted tunnel to your VPN provider so no one can see or edit your network traffic. There are a lot of VPN providers that you can choose from, both free and paid.
