Such is the case of Blight: Survival, a horror game set in the medieval era, which has gone viral on social media platforms like TikTok and YouTube in the past week. The developer, Haenir Studios from Iceland, is run by only two people, and the game's trailer has racked up millions of views on TikTok alone. In the wake of successful medieval indie games like Elden Ring, more developers are sure to explore the 14th century in an effort to endear themselves to gamers. A page for Blight: Survival was recently launched on Steam, although no information is presently available about a release date. The idea behind Blight: Survival is an eye-catching one. Everyone loves a good zombie apocalypse movie or game where they can play the hero, but in recent years, the category has suffered a hit because virtually all new movie releases were running the same plot with very little ingenuity. Merge the zombie apocalypse with the Middle Ages, however, and suddenly the cliché gets exciting. Blight: Survival's Gameplay Trailer Holds Promise for the Zombie Industry The gameplay trailer contained much promise for gore lovers, as Blight: Survival put on a five-minute showcase of grisly combat in the footage in the forms of 1v1 and sneak attacks. Medieval warfare is associated with gruesome details - losing limbs, sharp objects, and full-on beastly weapons of war - and Blight: Survival does not shy away from this, much to the delight of gamers. The first footage in the gameplay trailer is a knight bashing their shield repeatedly into a blight-riddled zombie's skull, producing sickening bone-crunching sounds of impact. Players can expect to run amok with their swords as they pretend to be skilled men of arms, running through hordes of zombies that rather unintelligently attack the player's avatar one after another - as one would expect from these simple-minded creatures. Haenir Studios intends Blight: Survival to be a four-player co-op roguelite and promises a large open map with lots of customization options in weaponry and armor. Players can gain inventory from the corpses of their slain enemies but would do well to beware of attacks from unseen foes, as all progression may be lost upon death.
