2025-03-29A Netflix documentary detailing the forbidden relationship between the late Vicky White, the former assistant director of operations at the Lauderdale County Detention Center, and inmate Casey White is set to be released on Sept. 25.The film, “Jailbreak: Love on the Run,” will show viewers how the sordid romance began and flourished behind bars, eventually culminating in the death of Vicky and a life sentence for Casey.“April 29, 2022, the day of the infamous jailbreak, was supposed to be Vicky’s last day at the detention center after 17 years. At approximately 9:40 a.m., Vicky placed Casey in a patrol car telling staff that she was transporting him to a mental health evaluation at the Lauderdale County courthouse. The two never arrived. On May 2, authorities issued a warrant for Vicky’s arrest. The following day, the pair’s luck came to an end after police identified the vehicle they were traveling in near Evansville, Indiana. Law enforcement quickly initiated a short pursuit. During the chase, Vicky shot herself to avoid being arrested and injured Casey in the process. He was dragged out of the vehicle, taken into custody, and promptly expedited back to Alabama.”According to detention center staff, Vicky White was trusted and beloved by many before the escape.“She treated everybody like they were somebody,” said former Lauderdale County Detention Center resident Tyler Purser in the documentary. “She was like [the] mother … that everybody in there never had growing up.”Austen Shipley is a staff writer for Yellowhammer News.
