Day Trips from Ruidoso: Discover nearby towns and attractions

When disaster struck the Ruidoso community during the South Fork Fire, countless individuals stepped up to help. Among them was tattoo artist Logan Flaherty (Fle), whose extraordinary efforts left an indelible mark. Logan’s dedication to his hometown goes beyond art—he embodies the spirit of compassion and resilience that defines Ruidoso. A Life Rooted in Art and ConnectionLogan’s journey as an artist began early, inspired by his mother, a talented graphic artist who nurtured his creative instincts. Teaching him calligraphy and gifting him his first tattoo machine, she fostered a deep connection to art that Logan describes as giving him “a sense of peace.”This love for art extends beyond tattoos. Logan plays a key role in the vibrant mural scene in Ruidoso, where he collaborates with a team to complete murals that transform public spaces. From a small initiative to a celebrated community feature, these murals are a testament to his passion and vision. Tattooing as a Craft and a CallingNearly a decade ago, Logan began his tattooing career as an apprentice to his long-time friend, James Flores. Today, he specializes in cover-ups, revamps, and animal realism, bringing beauty and confidence to his clients. For Logan, every tattoo is a personal journey. One client, burdened by a tattoo she disliked, found the courage to wear shorts again after Logan’s transformative work. Another described finally feeling proud of her arm when looking in the mirror.Beyond individual tattoos, Logan cherishes the relationships he builds with returning clients. “People put trust in you to tattoo them and then come back time and time again,” he says. Heroism in the Face of DisasterDuring the South Fork Fire, Logan’s commitment to his community went into overdrive. With intimate knowledge of Ruidoso’s backroads and an ability to thrive in chaotic situations, Logan loaded his truck with supplies and set out to help. From feeding stranded animals to putting out small fires, he worked tirelessly to assist evacuees and share crucial updates. At one point, he received over 500 texts a day from people seeking information and help. His selfless actions provided comfort to many during an overwhelming time.Reflecting on the experience, Logan described the spirit of Ruidoso as “a community effort of paying it forward,” adding, “I wasn’t thinking of the praise. I just wanted to help.”Logan’s efforts earned him the title of Grand Marshal for the 2024 AspenFest celebration—an honor he humbly attributes to the collective heroism of Ruidoso’s first responders, whom he calls “the real heroes.” Continuing the MissionLogan’s contributions didn’t end when the fires were extinguished. Through his work at Scorpion Tattoos, Logan, James Flores and the whole Scorpion team have raised $200,000 for fire recovery efforts, with more fundraising initiatives in the works. “Our efforts are always going to be to help people in need,” he says. Looking AheadAs a staunch advocate for Ruidoso’s future, Logan continues to champion initiatives that benefit the community. His entrepreneurial spirit has already brought the town the popular Ruidoso Escape Rooms, and his next project—a new skate park—aims to.
