And? What does it do for you? Edward I still haven't had a crack at it, but from what I read I'm hoping it will convert garmin tracks to routes for me and vice-versa. I'm still new to all this so I'm trying most anything and everything to see what's useful. Does the new version support Garmin Version 3 files? That was my main issue with the old program - I had to convert all my data to Version 2.Thanks for a great utility! One thing I don't like about wingdb is that it doesn't support .kml, unlike trackmaker.If it did, everything would be much easier and quicker. I believe that is what GPSBAbel is for. The WinGDB program is a program that is designed specifically to work with Garmin Routes and Tracks and convert one to the other. I still struggle with GPS -> GIS and back to GPS. I use a combination of things. I generally create KML files of objects using the standard export to Google functions. I then created a batch file that uses GPSBabel to upload the kml to my GPS. The advantage of this is no issue with datums/projections.Also look out for gpx2tab - a mapbasic function to import gpx files.On the reverse side of the equation you can also create a batch file for GPSBabel to download from gps to GPX and then use the gpx2tab to get it into Mapinfo.Garfile is slowly going out of fashion as Garmin keeps changing protocols (It won't work with newer GPS's like 62S). having said that , neither does Blue Marble Graphics work with the 62S. They have indicated it might be supported in a future release but no dates yet.Of course, good old OziExplorer will handle just about anything and will create shapefiles for you that you can read immediately in MapInfo. I use that in 90% of the time if data is just being viewed and not manipulated.

Tools for GIS Data ConversionData describing geographic region boundaries is used in Logi Info as either a GPX or KML file. In addition, data is also widely available in shapefiles (SHP). Note that these files need to use the standard Mercator projection, based on the WGS 1984 Ellipsoid projection, that Google Maps requires; "conic" projections, for example, will not work. A search of the Internet will yield many hits for software tools, free and paid, that can convert GIS data into these formats. Logi Analytics does not specifically endorse or recommend any particular tool but we have experimented with the following. The following resources are provided to you as a courtesy. They're external resources not associated with Logi Analytics and we cannot guarantee that the links provided will remain viable. Developers are encouraged to search the Internet for their own resources.SHP2KML 2.0 The SHP2KML program (freeware) available at will convert a SHP file into a Google KML file. GPSBabel The GPSBabel program (licensed under GNU - but should be fine for just about every use except re-distribution) is available at and will convert KML to GPX format. GPS Visualizer This is a free online conversion tool which is probably good for small files but not larger ones. ExpertGPS ExpertGPS makes it very easy to convert SHP files into GPX or KML formats and is available at The program isn't free, but it's relatively low cost ($74.95 for personal use) and is available in a 30-day trial version. The program makes it very easy to convert between SHP and other file formats. When you download a .zip file containing SHP files, it will contain three files. You'll need to unzip all three files to a folder and then use the "Import" function of the ExpertGPS program to generate the GPX file (you'll only select the .shp file for import but the process reads from the other two files to get the appropriate labels and other metadata). To create the appropriate GPX file for Logi Info to work you need to make sure that you're populating the "Description" field with the boundary name from the SHP file (e.g. zip code, county, etc); it's suggested that you leave all the other fields empty to create the smallest possible GPX file.

If you have a question you can start a new discussion I would like to export tracks in order to import them into Google Maps and create an overview of a recorded trip. Google maps limits the file size to 5MB. These files exceed that. I certainly don't need the full precision, and could decimate the stored points by a factor of 4 or 10 for example. It seems like both (1) Garmin connect should have a way to reduce precision on export, and (2) Google should have a way to reduce precision on import!I could take extra steps to export then decimate using some third party approach, but that adds steps, complexity, and possibly exposes my data to yet another party. I would prefer if I could find a simple way to this upon export, which seems like a very reasonable feature to have. True, some options for export GPX would be nice - for example an option to export laps' points.Currently you can use some local converters like GPSBabel, this way a data probably won't be transferred to other party, as it's done locally on PC, it makes smaller files, something like a half, just done a test and: 800KB exported GPX vs. 380KB converted FIT to GPX. Well this is a bummer. Seems like a pretty simple fundamental thing to do directly.
