Three lanes separate opposing bases and a set of automated towers protect each lane, along with similarly automated groups of soldiers (creeps). The ultimate goal of your team: slowly push through the defenses to destroy the precious crystal that sits inside the opposing team's base.During this coordinated push and pull your guardian of choice has all the usual weapons of war to wield. A standard attack deals with the creeps and serves as a default damage-dealing source. With each creep and opposing guardian defeated you come one step closer to dominating the battlefield.The problem with MOBAs, however, is the equipment -- an RPG staple that's hard to cram into the mere seconds of time you spend at your base before returning to the war. Unless you have ample experience with what items to grab and when, this can often be the most difficult aspect of the MOBA for newcomers.Monolith wants that to change. The developers are moving items and character building off the battlefield and into the time between rounds. As you play Guardians of Middle-earth you earn points used for unlocking potions, relics, and other combat-worthy trinkets designed to customize your guardian. Before battle even starts you pick what you need for the upcoming competition at your leisure. [tab:Review]The Guardians of Middle Earth was one of the first traditional MOBA (Multiplayer Online Battle Arena) to hit consoles after the insurgency of the genre on the PC market with hit titles like Defense of the Ancients and League of Legends.While it didn’t offer the kind of depth or player base that the PC MOBA games enjoyed, it was heralded as a success due to its overall ease of play, licensing (nerds love LotR) and for the simple fact that there weren’t many games like it on the platform.However, now it has come to play with the big boys on the PC market with a poor adaptation of the control scheme and a laughable pricing model. It marks not the return of the king, but of a jester playing the role of pretender to the crown.Guardians of Middle Earth can be played in different configurations of one or three lanes. Three lanes is what one would expect when they think of DotA or LoL as there are three paths lined with towers, with a constant stream of mindless soldiers marching across.The single lane houses all five characters against each other in the same lane which turned out to be a constant, nearly unplayable lag-fest without a semblance of strategy as bodies piled on top of each other. While its existence is novel, the only way to truly play this title is with three lanes.The game play of Guardians is rather simple. At the start of the round, everyone chooses a Remembering how much the Dark Lord hurt his family, Celerbrimor declares war on Sauron and tries to stop him from getting his hands on the Ring of Power. Unlike Talion, the protagonist of Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor - The Bright Lord can use the power of the One Ring. He can use it to mind control his enemies, force them to attack their allies, and even become invisible. All of those things provide us with many possible tactical approaches to combat. Moreover, Celebrimbor is a much better archer. To play. The character packs include five unique heroes and go for $14.99. To pick up the game and all the characters separately would cost roughly $110. There’s a so called, “Mithril Edition” for $79.99 that has all the character packs included with an exclusive in-game relic which I’ve read in their official forums, nearly breaks the game and is very much a “pay to win” item. Do they know how their greatest competitors in the PC market are all free-to-play with very balanced micro transaction system that goes to great length to make sure “pay to win” doesn’t rear its ugly head?If I was told the publishing team behind Guardians did absolutely no research on the PC market before releasing this title, I would easily believe that based on the results.Ridiculous.I’ve played many different MOBAs on the PC in the recent years and Guardians of Middle Earth ranks in the worst out of the half dozen that I’ve tried.The clunky controls, lack of player base, shallow depth and laughable pricing model makes me feel as though there’s really no reason why anyone should buy or play this game as it stands now when the alternatives are superior in every possible way imaginable.Avoid this one, even if you are a die hard LotR fan.Fun Tidbit – Check out me and Drew’s fail at playing this game!Review copy of game provided by publisher.[tab:Screenshots][tab:END]. Some of that just demonstrated how well James Gunn’s style fit Kevin Feige’s MCU mold—I’m thinking specifically of the quippy, sarcastic characters and the heavily nostalgic licensed soundtrack. They’re staples of the Guardians series, but they’re also something that existed in Jon Favreau’s Iron Man. What made GotG and its sequel conceptually interesting was moving away from Earth as the center of the Marvel Cinematic Universe to explore the great unknowns of space. In this way, these films are able to maintain variety and vibrance in their spectacle even if it doesn’t exactly feel real. The Wachowskis’ Jupiter Ascending is a space opera with a lot in common with Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2. Like Guardians of the Galaxy, the film features a male action star with rocket boots (Channing Tatum as half-canine, genetically-engineered soldier Caine Wise). Like Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, the film centers on the power and responsibility foisted on someone’s shoulders based on their genes and forebears. With Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, Star Lord has to deal with the fact that his dad, Celestial superbeing Ego (Kurt Russell), wants him to conquer the galaxy. In Jupiter Ascending, domestic cleaner Jupiter Jones (Mila Kunis) gets drawn into a family drama wrapped around resource rights and planet ownership, and has to stop a rich immortal from destroying the Earth.
