The Easter Eggs of Super Mario

Now that The Super Mario Bros. Movie is streaming on Peacock, fans of the film — and of Nintendo video games — can rewatch it and pause it whenever they want so that they catch every single Easter egg. And, well, it’s going to take a lot of pausing, because there are an astounding number of Easter eggs and little references to iconic games scattered throughout the whole movie. Universal Pictures released two short videos featuring the creators and stars of the movie, which premiered in theaters in April of this year. All of the talent, including directors Aaron Horvath and Michael Jelenic, Jack Black (Bowser), Keegan-Michael Key (Toad), and Mario’s creator Shigeru Miyamoto, can’t emphasize enough how many Easter eggs are in the film. The videos spotlight a couple of the hardest-to-find Easter eggs in the movie. In the first act of the film, for example, there’s a scene where Mario (Chris Pratt) and Luigi (Charlie Day) bust through a brick wall. The hole they create in the bricks is the same shape as Mario’s head from the original 8-bit Super Mario Bros. game. “Nobody notices it,” Jelenic says in the video. “And that to me is a great easter egg, doesn’t take away from the storytelling but as soon as you notice it will warm your heart and tell you that you’re in good hands.”RELATED: Our favorite 'Super Mario Bros. Movie' Easter eggs: Game references, cameos & moreThere are also references to Pikmin, Punch-Out, Star Fox, Duck Hunt, and more. (Jelenic and Horvath actually both wanted to claim credit for the Duck Hunt Easter egg, which appears as a French restaurant in New York named Chasse au Canard.)Check out both videos above, and watch The Super Mario Bros. In full, the microprocessor is called “Microprocessor without Interlocked Pipeline Stages”. Like another Easter Egg, much of MIPS’ dialogue is akin to the White Rabbit’s from Alice in Wonderland. 1 Shiverburn Galaxy Super Mario Galaxy 2 This unique galaxy is home to one of the strangest and weirdest Easter eggs in the series. Located in World 5, this galaxy utilizes a really ‘cool’ concept: fire and ice co-existing. Some tasks even require Mario to use ice to cross lava. This bizarre idea executed brilliantly makes Shiverburn Galaxy one of the best locations in this game. As for the weird Easter Egg, it can be seen using the zoom feature. It seems there are three humanoid beings staring down at Mario. It seems really random as to why they’re there, but interestingly, they share a similar appearance to a creature in Japanese mythology, the “Kodama”. In folklore, it’s said they reside in trees. Japan has large areas of forested land, which covers approximately 68% of the country’s land area. MORE: Easiest Mario Games, Ranked

Google Sign in to your ScreenRant account One of the newest Easter eggs to be added to Google search celebrates the anniversary of the release of Cha Cha Slide by DJ Casper. The Easter egg is already live and adds an interactive element to any searches done for the song over its anniversary month. Google Search is no stranger to Easter eggs and even though many are designed to coincide with the release or anniversary of a product or event, these Search Easter eggs continue to remain available months, and sometimes, years later. For example, Google added a Pac-Man Easter egg to Search to mark the 30th anniversary of the game in 2010. A decade later and that same Easter egg is still available. Other hidden tricks you can currently find on Google Search include one for Super Mario Bros., one celebrating The Wizard Of Oz, as well as an Avengers-based ‘Thanos Snap’ Easter egg. Similar to the Pac-Man Easter egg, this latest one has been released to mark the anniversary of an event. The song Cha Cha Slide by DJ Casper was first released in August, 2000. With August here once again, Google has decided to jazz up the experience for any "Cha Cha Slide" searches with this new and fun Easter egg. Here’s how to find it and what to expect. How To Find The Cha Cha Slide Easter Egg As is nearly ways the case with these Easter eggs, the first step is to perform a general Google search for the keyword - in this case "Cha Cha Slide.’ Once searched, the results page generated will be the same as it has always been with a large knowledge panel displaying information about the song, including lyrics and a play link for the YouTube video. The difference, however, is the section that includes the YouTube video link also now includes a microphone icon and this is key to the Easter egg. Tapping on the microphone icon will immediately result in an interactive experience that's tied to the song. Furthermore, tapping it again will result in another, but different interactive experience. In fact, the user can (and should) continue tapping the icon as this will result in multiple different interactive experiences right up until the final and main Cha Cha Slide related effect takes place. Of course, one crucial part of this Google Easter egg experience is the song

PC Gaming Sign in to your Game Rant account By now most readers know our thoughts on Techland’s latest first person survival title Dying Light, but if not make sure to read our review. While the game showed a lot of potential, and offered some enjoyable gameplay and mechanics, the overall product fell slightly short of our expectations. However, if there’s one overwhelmingly positive quality about the game it’s that Dying Light always kept its sense of humor. It’s wholly evident while playing the game, but is becoming clearer as players uncover more playful secrets and Easter Eggs within the new release. From an EXPcalibur sword to a parody of Destiny’s loot cave, Dying Light has so far offered up some pretty fun Easter Eggs. This latest one, though, is arguably the best we’ve seen yet. Check it out below. [HTML1] As the video shows, there is a special pipe hidden in the second open world area of Dying Light that will unlock an homage to one of the greatest games and most iconic game levels of all time. We, of course, are talking about Super Mario Bros. and its World 1-1 level. What’s great about this World 1-1 homage is that the Dying Light mechanics give players the chance to explore the level from the first person perspective and with some added parkour skills. But even though there are some changes, developer Techland still did a solid job of replicating the look and feel of original Super Mario Bros. Even the zombies look like goombas. More importantly than that, the World 1-1 Easter Egg actually rewards players with some experience after reaching the final flagpole. But the biggest takeaway from the Easter Egg is likely the feeling of nostalgia that seeing those crude blocks and generic clouds brings out. Now, we’re curious more than ever to uncover all the Easter Eggs Dying Light has packed within its admittedly substantial campaign and sprawling open world areas. We thought Excalibur was just a tiny in-joke, but this Super Mario Bros. homage makes us think the known Easter Eggs are just the tip of the iceberg. The hunt for more Dying Light secrets is on! _____________________________________________ Read Game Rant's Dying Light Review _____________________________________________ Have you found any other cool Easter Eggs in Dying Light?
