One was taken thisweek and the other last August. After the August backup all the PDF files onthe iPad remained there. After the latest one they disappeared. I’m pretty surethat neither the iTunes nor iPad software has been updated since August, sothis is puzzling.Today, I tried restoring the older backup to another iPad (I’llcall it iPad2 from now on). I was surprised to find that it did not overwritethe contents of iPad2. Instead it seemed to merge them, so apps that were previouslyonly on iPad2 were still there. I went into iBooks then PDFs. There were anumber of PDFs that had been on iPad2, but, as I watched, they all vanished.Next I wiped iPad2 completely and set it up as a new device.I then restored to iPad2 from the latest backup in iTunes. I went into iBooksthen PDFs and there were all the PDFs that had vanished from my wife’s iPad.Once again, they vanished as I watched.Does this mean that (1) all the PDFs are somewhere in thebackup if only they can be retrieved, or (2) iBooks keeps a catalogue of booksand when I open PDFs it finds that the books listed in its catalogue areactually no longer on the device, so it removes them from the bookshelf view? Looks like no one’s replied in a while. To start the conversation again, simply ask a new question. How do you install ios 7 on ipad2 with 4.3 and keep 45 installed programs? I am old windows end DOS user. Never had a successful Win upgrade. So, how do you install 7 on yo iPad 2 with ios4.3. I literally have 45 apps installed, some business mission critical. I know this May be like Unix, but if you upload everything yo cloud or server, install 7, 1st I go to ITunes, right? Then, does installer reformat ipad2? Then, I all saved programs (how to know what not to backup? are brought back flown, all thee issues like registry Giles, initial or dolls. I simply font know apple. I can't begin to think of loosing my music, emails, all programs.. The 61 yr old Windows guy needs your help please. If I have to redown load everything, I'll stay with 4.3. This version did not have incremental install. Also this is Verizon WiFi 64 gb make any difference? iPad 2, iOS 4.3.3, Filled with apps Posted on Nov 23, 2013 7:18 PM Posted on Nov 23, 2013 7:23 PM Since you have 4.3 on your iPad you had to set it up with a computer. So you update the iTunes on that computer to iTunes 11. Then you connect your iPad and do a full sync and backup. Then you download the iOS7 update and let iTunes do its thing. When you download via iTunes (which is your only option) it downloads the whole operating system.iTunes will download and install the operating system, then it will restore your apps and data from the backup you just made so your new one will be a near clone of how it is now.You may need to update your apps after you update the operating system since some may/may not be reverse compatible back to iOS 4.3 How do you install ios 7 on ipad2 with 4.3 and keep 45 installed programs?

The PDFs deleted by the lastbackup reappeared on this iPad. There were 24 of these and I had e-mailed themall to myself as a safeguard before exposing iPad2 to any testing.I then tried the same procedure on my wife’s iPad wherehundreds of PDFs have vanished. This time my wife’s missing PDFs did notreappear, but the PDFs that disappeared and reappeared on iPad 2 were added toher iPad. Both use the same Apple ID.I tried the alternative suggestions in the second link, butnothing brings back the remaining PDFs.What I cannot understand is why I can’t see on iCloud thePDFs that disappeared from iPad2 and then were restored to both iPads, letalone the others. Can anyone tell me how to do this?On both iPads. iCloud -> Manage storage shows 322.4MBassigned to Apple Books. I’m pretty sure that 24 PDFs that I can still accessdon’t make up this total - the largest is 48Mb, but the next largest is 5MB.Some are a single page. Most of my wife’s would also be a single page, so Isuspect the 322MB relates to all the PDFs I’m trying to restore. It seems like lots of people are having similar problems. Itreally gives me no faith in Apple software. Any more suggestions would behelpful thanks. Apr 9, 2020 4:29 AM in response to Seratel1 In an attempt to rescue these PDF files, I have installed the iCloud app ona PC. This shows a graph of how my iCloud storage is used and "Docs"takes up 397MB. If I then click on the "Storage" button it opens a"Manage storage" window. There are two entries in the left-hand panelfor "Apple Books", one has 395.4Mb and the other 3.5KB.The right-hand panel says, “Select an app or service on the left tomanage your documents and data”. So, I clicked on the Apple Books entrywith the larger amount of space used, expecting to see what exactly was stored.A window flashed up saying “Deleting”. I closed the window quickly andthe amount of space used by Apple Books doesn’t appear to have changed. Doesanyone have any idea what is going on here? This software seems thoroughlymisleading and designed to lose data. Apr 3, 2020 10:27 AM in response to Seratel1 Probably need to sync/backup to the device where the iBooks are located and check that iTunes settings are set to put PDFs back on the iPad. Apr 3, 2020 11:55 AM in response to Gannett Hi. Can you tell me how to get into this setting in iTunes? The only relevent option seems to be Edit / Preferences / Devices, but this only allows me to delete eisting backups. Thanks.
