For Immediate Release, April 29, 2024The Cinch National Finals of Team Roping continues to boast the highest team count in the roping industry while paying out nearly $3.3 million in cash plus an additional quarter million in prizes to nearly 5500 teams from all over the United States, Canada, Mexico, and South America.Albuquerque, New Mexico - The United States Team Roping Championships (USTRC) held its prestigious finals event, The Cinch National Finals of Team Roping, in Fort Worth, Texas from April 21st through Sunday April 28th. For 35 years, team roping families have gathered to compete for the coveted title of "US Finals" Champion Header and Heeler and this year's annual event saw lifelong friends, brothers, sisters, moms and dads, and new acquaintances roping together for a chance at great payouts, Gist Buckles, Scott Thomas Saddles, Resistol Hats, Horse Power Boots, Yeti Coolers and Succeed Equine supplements that came with every first place Shoot-Out check.In total, there were 18 different divisions, from the Open to the #7 and three divisions of breakaway roping. Every once in awhile things unfold and you just have tosmile. Such is the case with J RDees and Riley Wilson. They justmake you smile. They put joy inyour heart and you suddenly realize we are all human and it is okay to behonest, open, joyous and sincere and one does not have to wear a mask orpretend. Life is, indeed, a ball so take it and run wild. JR Dees was ecstatic. He had justwon the #15 Preliminary at the 2016 Cinch USTRC Team Roping in Oklahoma Citywith partner, Riley Williams. Heso wanted to repeat the win in the #15 Shoot Out with partner, RileyWilson. The kid ropes awesome. “I’mpretty lucky to have some good heelers,” Dees voiced. “I’ve been a littlenervous through all this.” As itturned out Dees and his partner, Riley Wilson was the sixth high team backgoing into the short go round of the #15 Shoot Out at this years NFTR. Dees had tasted victory and he morethan liked the feeling. To say hewas on a role was to underestimate what was staring everyone in the face. Wilson,however, was like a cat on a hot tin roof. “You are not human if you are notnervous,” Wilson voiced. “I could not sit still. I could not think. I had been a bundle of nerves andstressed from the moment I had stepped on a plane headed from Canada toOklahoma. It had been a zoo, lostluggage, crazy horses and strange happenings. I lost my stirrups and made theshot of the century with no stirrups. I felt like a monkey trying to ride abasketball through the whole deal. I had to check and make sure I didn’t needsome clean clothes.” Regardlessof what Wilson was trying to cope with when he and Dees rode into the box inthe short go round it was all business. “Ihad to put it behind me,” Wilson elaborated. “I just rode into the box andthought about being fourteen years old when roping was just fun and I ropedbecause it is fun and what I love to do. By golly, it worked.” Itdid work. Dees and Wilson posted atime of 6.46 on their short round steer and set into motion a chain of eventsthat involved waiting and trying to stay calm, cool and collected. A waitinggame is never fun. Whenthe dust cleared and the numbers were totaled one team emerged that would makeyou smile. Dees and Wilson wouldtake the win the #15 Shoot Out. Splitting $100,000 the pair would also take home Martin ChampionshipTeam Roping Saddles, Gist Championship Gold Buckles, Tony Lama Boots andWestern Horseman Framed Prints. I figuredyou had left me hanging.” Deesis eighteen years old and Wilson wouldn’t give his age then Dees ratted on himand Wilson denied it only to say that he was old enough to know better. Dees and Wilson were embracing theirgood fortune. They had rerun andrehashed the #15 Shoot Out at the 2016 Cinch USTRC National Finals of TeamRoping over and over again. Deesstill wondered if it was real. Withjoy and a humble thanksgiving the ropers would never ever forget one evening in2016 when they were crowned the National Champions of the #15 Shoot Out.
