Dunvegan August 15, 2016, 4:49pm 6 Thank you for your reply. My understanding was that doing the 40 second reset would result in ALL data being lost - is this correct? - you seem to suggest that the data was still there after doing your reset procedure. Can you confirm please? - I have a lot of data on this drive that I can’t afford to lose! Bennor August 15, 2016, 5:41pm 7 No, not correct. You DO NOT loose any user files/data when performing a 40 second reset via the reset button on the back of the My Cloud. Long?? - I have done as you said and am now getting Solid white → Flashing yellow but still no Blue light - though there is lots of disc activity that there wasn’t before!Does it take 5 mins, 30 mins, 1 hour to initialize?? Dunvegan August 19, 2016, 9:44pm 10 So I have tried various combinations of powering on and off, holding the reset button for 40 seconds and for up to 5 minutes - I have done all of this fully clothed, partially clothed and now completely naked - none of this works! - I still get the flashing yellow led and no blue led.Can I now safely assume that I need to attempt this “unbricking” procedure that I an reading about?? - by the way, the drive is 1 month out of warranty…Today I bought a Synology NAS - I will never ever buy another WD product again - this is the 3rd one to fail on me… Well, if it’s the NIC that has failed, which does sound likely, it’s a hardware failure, and no amount of unbricking will help (well, I suppose the driver could have been corrupted). The best you are likely to do is to recover the HDD and use it as an internal or external drive.Just for completeness, I might look to see if the router upgraded its firmware whilst you were away. And that I’d reset it, too. Dunvegan August 21, 2016, 7:55pm 12 Thanks for your imput.I have a 2Tb MyCloud connected to the same router so I’m assuming that the router is OK. It works perfectly with the Synology NAS too. Also, the faulty unit doesn’t get to the blue stage when unplugged, so I’m assuming that it’s gonna end up in the skip with my other 3 WD MyClouds… Yeah, if the router’s working okay for other devices, it certainly does look like the one device is duff. I guess for completeness, you could try unbricking, just in case it is simply the driver that’s been damaged somehow (although the critical stuff like that ought to be protected by the RAID arrangement on the OS partitions). As for skipping, well, whilst the NAS board and firmware may be a bit questionable in quality, the actual HDDs are about as good as they come. Crack open the cases, and get the data off them, or just stick them in a PC with. August 8, 2016, 10:18am 1 I have 2 My Cloud devices (2 and 4 Tb) and both were switched off before I went on holiday - both were working perfectly before this. On returning and powering on, the 2Tb model went to blue light within seconds. The 4Tb model now never goes beyond the “flashing yellow led” stage of bootup. On powering up, the LAN lights both go green, go out and stay out. They never come on. The unit remains in a flashing yellow led state.I have swopped over the cables to the router between units, so I know the cables and router are good. The unit also doesn’t show up on my network. I tried the 4 second reset but the unit has remained flashing for over 24 hours now.Can I assume that it is goosed?? - and will I be able to remove the hard disk and connect it into some kind of enclosure and use it again?Any help gratefully received!! Trancer August 8, 2016, 5:47pm 2 Connecting the hard drive within your WD My Cloud into a different external enclosure may not work, and even if it does, the file system (EXT4) will need to be taken into account unless you completely format your unit.If you are yet to dismantle it you could try replacing your unit if it is still under warranty. Dunvegan August 13, 2016, 3:38pm 3 Can someone please give me an indication if they have seen this kind of error before that the drive is faulty??I am reading things to suggest that plugging up the power and inserting the LAN cable into the drive at various points in the boot can result in it working, but I’ve tried this on a few occasions and the fault persists.Anyone?.. Can’t say I’ve had the same problem, but the symptoms all point to a failure of the network adaptor.Failure of electronics on re-applying power is quite common. One possibility might be to try the power supply from the 2TB drive; cheap PSUs are regular failures. That and a 40-second reset. timmypro August 15, 2016, 1:48pm 5 Got the same problem last week and have it fixed. My WD Mycloud got flashing yellow LED. while I search this forum, some said the drive is checking for error. I waited 48 hours and it still flashing.I unplugged the power. press and hold reset button and plug in power supply for like. 2025-04-06(why cannot I not see MHC on my smart TV) since the latest update tekram October 13, 2021, 8:34pm 9 Sometimes users run helper apps on their phones or smart TVs and that created the appearance that Twonky is being served elsewhere, such as the MCH when it is not and it becomes very confusing to the user as well as those who try to troubleshoot the problem. MCH support has said for many years that MCH does not have Twonky:What you are seeing could be this, when the Twonky receiver app is running together with a helper app: thjames October 14, 2021, 4:10am 10 thanks but Im not asking if I used Twonky or not, maybe you are missing the point. My problem is “I was accessing my MCH directly via my smart tv. It was plug and play. Not thru any app. I didn’t install any app nor change any TV (or router) settings. I plugged in the MHC and i saw it under “sources”, NOW IT IS GONE”. ever since the change on Oct 1 21, which seems to have caused a huge amount of problems.I saw Twonky (on the TV) and did not install any other app. You maybe right it had nothing to do with Twonky…but that is not the issue. I wouldn’t have a clue what a “helper app” is but if the TV or MCH installed something it did it automatically without my knowledge.Obviously WD changed something recently which has caused the problem, but what? Yes!! The best one seems to be universal media streamer which is free!!Install it on your pc, direct it to share wd mycloud home, using the drive you have mapped it on windows explorer. Then videos and music files will play on any smart tv etc. without having to have the media streamer on the tv. Seems to work well. You have to keep your pc on while viewing on tv.It is disgusting of WD to claim to be a nas drive when it is hopeless compared to wd cloud nas for showing video on tv.
